8th The Album

Here is some cool stuff I wrote about my work to help make me sound cooler and give a little insight:

8th-

This song is about the incomparable ending of all things in death. Also mentioned in the end is the profiteering aspect of life as it pertains to the hypocrisy in wellbeing.

This song is a piano based piece; that has the most structured composition and is the center piece of the album.

34-

This song was originally conceived the day they found Layne Staley’s body dead in his Seattle apartment about two weeks after he died (April of 2002). The original recorded version and lyrics were mistakenly erased and forgotten but, the piano structure and emotions invoked by the tragedy would never be lost.

Mudd-

“Every season my colors change and the deep ones stay the same” Opening line to the song.

This song is a tribute to painting emotional philosophy through music. Covering how life is always changing but, you don’t seem to change much inside. The person, you were as a child is still there somewhere. The teenager, afraid of love and how it could change us is still clamoring to the freedom of youth. Of course this is the analytical explanation and if you know anything about emotions is they don’t make logical sense. Unless your true idea of sense, is really just confusion.

Sleep-

The explanation of this song can be compiled in two whole verses:

“Rode down some storied page, broke down along the way. Now that I know what it’s about, maybe I could change”.

“Sometimes you want to fall in love, sometimes you want to die. I just wish I knew, how to fly”

Tragic-

The premise is in the title however, to take it a little further for the sake of understanding if you will; the song was meant to depict the cold rise from static thought. This song is also helping to erode the tragic state of blind belief that perpetuates hateful ideals in everyday life.

Wednesday-

Let the music be my paint brush and I will paint you such a picture-

This picture is clean with sharp strait lines and bold strokes that came to me on a Wednesday.

Soft Rage-

A distantly wild and long piece that travels though time on a journey made of rhythm and dreams. You start in one place enjoying some piano centered trotting melody only to find yourself on a more wild and dangerous mission.

Change-

The message is simple enough and I believe this song to be the most polished of the bunch. Surprise it is completely different in tone and structure from the rest of this album.

The story behind Grey wolf

I had this children’s record when I was a little boy growing up in Salinas California. The story from what I remember was called Grey Wolf, who was not the main character, but was the dream guider for the main character Barrington. Barrington was a bunny that was lost in the snow with no family of his own. He was in search for a place and family with the other creatures in the forest. The problem was he wasn’t like the other creatures and they wouldn’t accept him. He couldn’t climb trees so the squirrels would not let him live with them and he couldn’t swim so the beavers would not let him live with them. So he started to get cold and tired that is when the Grew Wolf appeared with his silvery cold eyes to give him some comforting advice. He convinced Barrington to give each of the animals of the forest a gift with no strings attached. So Barrington went out and gave the squirrels some nuts and the beavers some twigs and that made him feel a little warmer inside and a little less alone. As he hopped away from his lat stop of gifting wonderment he spotted a lonely field mouse lost in the snow. Barrington asked the field mouse where he was going and the mouse to told Barrington he was lost and could not find his family and was very cold and afraid. Barrington asked the mouse to crawl under his warm fir for the night to get some sleep and in the morning he could find his way home. The mouse was very grateful and took refuge under the warm bunny for the night. The next morning when the mouse woke up and the sun was shining he crawled out from under Barrington and noticed that somewhere in the night the bunny had died. You see Barrington had no family and no friends the only thing he had was a gift with no strings attached. That gift was to sacrifice his life for other to live.

I have heard some say the Bunny was like Jesus and the wolf was like the father or God. I don’t really see it that way but I can see how they would. I would assume that who ever wrote that story probably had something like that in mind. I liked the story because it relates to the power that I think we all possess. The heart felt ability to help others in need, without want for any ourselves. Often times so many people give their donations to reap the tax benefits, or for self gratification and political gain. Like to them charity is some kind of popularity contest. I would guess most of the time it doesn’t matter to the ones in need but sometimes the stings are too thick and it really isn’t worth it to take the charity. Hopefully if I ever have to help you never know it was me. I think it’s cool when a stranger helps you out then just walks away. It isn’t a big deal we all need someone sometimes the world is just too difficult to get through all alone.

New Stuff

WOW! There is so much in the works as always now I feel like I have to go back and shore up some stuff. What do you mean you may ask? Well I will tell you.

1. Getting all the stuff put together for the new Funkyhairman Album Tito Sunshine all the tracks and the artwork are ready. All that is left is the production of the actual Cd's and the cover. This album has about 23 songs and spans of two Cd's.
2. The relaunch of www.headphonejack.org. It is changing over from being a part of the www.funkyhairman.com site to it's own thing.
   
3. The lyrical unraveling of all my released work up to date. This is exciting in the fact that I have never released any of the lyrics to my songs and I plan to do so on this very blog one song at a time over the next year. (So far between funkyhairman and Headphone Jack there have been 3 albums released containing about 40 songs and if you include Tito Sunshine it bring that number closer to 63).

So you can see there is work yet to be done and about time to get to it.

White Trash

The album inspiration is in title and the music. This one is more of an acoustic/electric based album with a vocally rich overtone. Each song tells a little more of the story in the white trash world for example jumping on a tramp, this is the story of a john going out and getting a hooker that happens to be large. Part of the references in the song refer to the theory that you don't pay a hooker to stay but rather to leave. It is a common thought among some people that I have meet that weather you have a girlfriend, wife or hooker you still pay for sex. That being said, I think some people haven't found the right partners or maybe just put too much emphasis into getting laid. Sex is nice but love can last a lifetime.

Another dark place the songs on this album can take you would be exampled by the song Wife Beater. This song delves into the emotions behind domestic violence and the damage it does to families with children. I thought this was important after hearing stories of the what happened to the children now separated from there families and trying to grow up with such a emotional developmental disadvantage.

There are also some more light heart-ed and fun songs such as The Lamp light, a song about going out and drinking after a hard weeks work. Blue Collard Man also has melancholy joking side to it meant to help people lighten up a bit.

All instruments were preformed by Titus Etheridge. The drums were made on a Alesis SR-16 & LADS Drum Loops. The backup female vocals were preformed by Shannon. All tracks and mixing were engineered by 8th Productions Portland OR.

7:30 A.M.

This is the first album in the Funkyhairman collection. The recording of this album stretched from Los Angeles to Marin California copyright 2006. It evolved as much of the music you will find under this label does. The album takes you on a wake less journey of the Monday morning blues. The piano based tracks are filled with angst and riddled with compassion for the soul. This is one of the first collaborations done with Funkyhairman & CoD now know as Jackie Juke Box (SLiMCHaNcE Productions ).

The album also tells the story of the homeless population in America one of the most appalling attributes of our country here as rich as ours. The song most particularly tackling this dilemma in a humerus manner would be Food (for kitty Colombo). The other in a more spiritual aspect would be 30, that's how old I was homeless, hopeless and sad in Los Angeles. Things are brighter now as they always can be. Don't ever give up!

The album also brings into question the idea of death and rebirth of life. Blackened Eyes is the song about the end. Not Armageddon crazy! Our inevitable one the one we all must face, Yes death. We all must face it sometimes it's best to face it as a beginning to the unknown and to reflect the proper prospective of what is truly important in life.

The Orgins

The name Funkyhairman is derived from a song written by Titus Etheridge at 8Th Productions. It was written partly in 1994 and finished in 1999. There is a recorded version of the song for they that wish to hear ( www.funkyhairman.com) this was recorded in Evolution Studios in 2002 with Addict Evolution (Titus Etheridge vocals and acoustic guitar, Ken Liebenburg drums Joel Cabotoge electric guitars. Engineered/produced by Joel Cabotoge and Titus Etheridge.) Funkyhairman name is used mostly as a name to describe solo albums by Titus Etheridge. Most of the music is piano or acoustic guitar based with a heavy dose of vocals. There are some more instrumental based songs as well but most of the music written for the funkhairman label is vocal driven melancholy music. Please enjoy!
